Students analyse procedural safeguards for witnesses and victims, including protective measures, confidentiality, participation and the balancing of protection with the rights of the accused.

Module 4 — Pre-Trial and Trial Proceedings

Students examine advanced pre-trial and trial procedures, including confirmation or framing of charges, preliminary issues, presentation of evidence, examination of witnesses and judicial management of proceedings.

Module 5 — Fair Trial and Defence Rights

Students examine the rights of accused persons, including presumption of innocence, adequate time and facilities for defence, legal representation, disclosure, examination of witnesses and the requirement for an independent and impartial tribunal.

Module 6 — Judgments, Appeals and Post-Trial Proceedings

Students examine judgments, sentencing-related procedure, appellate review, procedural errors, remedies and other post-trial mechanisms in international criminal proceedings.
