International Mediation & Negotiation Advanced
An advanced course examining international negotiation, mediation strategy, consent, neutrality, confidentiality, settlement processes, cross-cultural communication and implementation of negotiated outcomes.

Module 1 — Advanced Principles of International Negotiation
Students examine negotiation theory and practice in international disputes, including interests, positions, bargaining strategies, preparation, communication and the management of complex multi-party negotiations.
Module 2 — International Mediation and the Role of the Mediator
Students analyse mediation as a consensual dispute-resolution process and examine the mediator's role, neutrality, impartiality, process management and the limits of mediator intervention.
Module 3 — Consent, Confidentiality and Procedural Fairness
Students examine party consent, confidentiality, procedural fairness, information management and safeguards intended to support meaningful participation in international mediation.
Module 4 — Cross-Cultural Communication and Complex Disputes
Students analyse communication challenges arising from different legal, cultural and institutional backgrounds and develop strategies for managing misunderstandings and complex international negotiations.
Module 5 — Settlement Agreements and Implementation
Students examine the structure of negotiated settlements, enforceability considerations, implementation mechanisms, monitoring obligations and the management of post-settlement disputes.
Module 6 — Multi-Party Mediation and International Practice
Students apply advanced mediation and negotiation principles to multi-party disputes involving States, international organisations and other participants, including preparation, caucusing, consensus-building and durable settlement.
